AI-powered, in-browser development platform that allows users to build, run, and deploy full-stack web applications entirely through normal language prompts.

Stackless spent years developing tools to run software environments directly inside internet browsers, but the company found little commercial success until everything changed in the summer of 2024 when they applied advanced AI models to their technology and created Bolt. Bolt allows non-developers to build software easily without needing traditional computer science skills. Although the company expected Bolt to appeal mainly to software engineers, the product quickly went viral on social media and attracted hundreds of thousands of paying customers. This sudden explosion forced a tiny team of fifteen employees to scale up rapidly, hire customer support agents overnight, and navigate high-pressure business deals with major corporations like Microsoft.

As Bolt grew, the company began treating AI agents like junior employees that require careful management, clear guardrails, and constant feedback. For example, their data team built an AI analyst that creates complex charts and narratives, which requires human oversight to ensure accuracy. Employees must shift their mindsets from being individual producers to becoming managers who guide networks of AI tools. Instead of rewriting code, workers update their AI agents by giving them text files of feedback, much like a human performance review. In the future, human judgment and specialized skills will remain critical because people must manage these tools effectively and ensure the final products have high quality and authentic taste.
